Can you please tell me the time scale and cost of putting wife’s name onto house deeds. Many thanks
There is no simple answer, it depends on a number of variables including the value of your property, whether the title is already registered at HM land Registry and whether or not you have a mortgage. If you don't have a mortgage and you simply want your wife to become a co-owner of the property then if the title is registered it will probably take two or three weeks or so and will cost in the region of £150 - £200 plus Land registry fees of perhaps £50 - £70 depending on the value.
If you have a mortgage then the paperwork is more complicated you will need to get the consent of your lender to the change of ownership. This will take time but it is impossible to say how long because some lenders are much slower than others. It will be necessary for the lender to sign the paperwork and this can also take time. Finally, the lender will probably charge a fee for giving its consent and signing the Transfer. There is no standard fee and it varies from lender to lender.
