Shared fence blew down in bad weather - who is responsible for repairing it?
During recent bad weather my shared rear fence partially blew down. The fence was there when I moved into my new-build house and there was already someone living behind me. She therefore put extra panels on the fence so there was no visibility into her garden and the main support poles are on her side). With the fence now partially down, I was wondering who would be responsible for the repair of this fence? My neighbour, or is it joint? Many thanks for the advice...
You need to check your deeds as most new build homes will have ownership of boundaries clearly marked on the plan to the original sale documents. If there is no indication however I would suggest you speak with the neighbour first to see if you can reach agreement on the cost and carrying out of the works.
I would strongly recommend you do not become involved in any dispute as details would need to be supplied to any future buyer of your property and this could prejudice the sale to them.
